Meet Kara

I'm a Registered Psychotherapist (Ontario) with specialized training in spiritual care and mindfulness.

The gift of becoming a student of mindfulness has been to realize the immense value of being able to pause.

My Practice Story

A woman with dark hair tied back, wearing a white shirt, sitting at a wooden table, and writing in a notebook in a room with a window, sunlight, and potted plants.

Before private practice, I worked in hospital-based spiritual care, helping patients, families, and staff through profound change.

Over the past decade, insight meditation has become the cornerstone of both my professional practice, and personal health. Being still didn't come easily, and learning to pause remains a daily practice - ‘practice’ here, meaning meditation and mindfulness exploration, not psychotherapy alone.

With many silent retreat hours, teachers, and mentors I have come to appreciate that learning to be present to myself—is the work of a lifetime.

While my approach to spiritual health was, and remains very secular, mindfulness has enriched my understanding of faith in ways I would never have expected. The body has been my greatest teacher—inviting me to trust in its knowing and capacity for health.

To be curious with another—to practice being honest, vulnerable and humble about what it means to be human, has become my greatest joy.

What Holds the Heart of This Practice

I hold a Master of Theological Studies with a focus on Spiritual and Religious Care and have completed 1,600 hours of supervised clinical training.

Influences and Ongoing Inspiration

A woman with brown hair, wearing a gray sweater, stands outdoors with her eyes closed and hands on her chest near a stone wall, appearing to meditate or practice mindfulness.

I'm continually inspired by Unified Mindfulness and teacher Shinzen Young, who helps put words to deeply personal experiences—and gives me a language to share what I know with others.

I work with adults from all walks of life:

  • Parents, young adults, caregivers

  • Those navigating illness, anxiety, or end-of-life choices (including MAID, VSED)

  • Anyone exploring the wisdom of adulthood

Sessions are virtual, prioritizing privacy and accessibility.

Creative Work—Fun Fact

A weathered wooden swing with metal chains hanging from a tree branch over a grassy field.

Before becoming a psychotherapist, I studied media and worked in film production. This shaped my respect for creativity and the unique pressures of the entertainment world.

Drawing on this background, I offer support for creative industry professionals—informed by real experience in film production, and available for on-set or behind-the-scenes care when sensitive topics arise.

Curious about how mindfulness and psychotherapy can support your production teams? Reach out to discuss.

What Clients Teach Me

I am continually struck by my clients' integrity, compassion, and courage, their willingness to be vulnerable, and their commitment to exploring change.

They bring openness to feedback, laughter, and play.

As a Registered Psychotherapist (Ontario), certified teacher (OCT), writer, and mother, I keep my practice intentionally small, supporting clients with depth and presence.
