Meet Kara Braun, Registered Psychotherapist

I work with individuals and couples dedicated to taking the next steps in letting the most honest and truthful versions of themselves be known.

I’m passionate about seeing things for how they really are and believe that learning to see and appreciate the fine details of a situation are essential in figuring out how to move forward in realizing our dreams.

Meditation and mindfulness is for individuals who know that looking clearly at the circumstances of their life is the only way forward.  Regardless of how challenging things are or have been – personally or globally – my clients have the sense there is beauty and richness to be found and that they are part of the wonder of being human.

My clients are supported in knowing with their whole bodies that being a person who can know and feel deep happiness is among the greatest gifts they can offer the world.

Let’s see what good things might be possible.

Professional Profile

I’m based in Canada and registered as a psychotherapist in the province of Ontario through the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. This means if you are in Ontario or in a location where psychotherapy isn’t regulated (in Canada this is anywhere other than Quebec) our work can be considered psychotherapy and billed as such.

Outside of these jurisdictions, our work will be considered strictly meditation and mindfulness coaching and for all intents and purposes it will be like you are coming to Ontario for us to work together. Regardless of whether we’re doing coaching or psychotherapy, you will be in the care of someone who knows how to hold space for very difficult content. Your privacy will be of highest importance as you learn techniques and skills that support deep psychospiritual growth; reduced suffering, increased fulfillment, and positive behaviour changes.

Over time, but sometimes quite quickly, meditation and mindfulness can drastically shift your sense of what it means to be of service in the world and greatly expand your capacity to manage during troubling times. Depending on an individual’s circumstances, meditation and mindfulness may not be appropriate for or support an immediate relief of complex grief, acute anxiety, chronic depression or severe psychiatric illness.

If someone has the motivation and resources to work consistently with a skilled meditation and mindfulness coach and therapist, the relationship can be a value addition to an existing circle of support.  I like to say it takes a village to raise, support and protect, more than just children.

Meditation and mindfulness coaching can also provide a rich transitional bridge either to or from deeper psychotherapeutic work. It can support broader life transitions such as becoming a parent or supporting children leaving home, career change, large moves, downsizing, aging, illness, divorce, retirement or end of life.

My training has been through the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care and included 1600-hours of supervised clinical education in hospital settings along with a Master of Theological Studies specializing in Spiritual and Religious Care in a Pluralist Society. I have an MA in Educational Studies and worked as an elementary teacher with children and families in diverse communities for more than 10 years.
